The concept for this imagined ad for Lyric Opera of Chicago arose when I came across a striking photo of an opulent theater interior.
The rich colors provide a strong sense of place, but I couldn’t help but notice how far away the stage seemed from the mezzanine seats in the back. I wondered how a theater company could somehow turn that into a benefit–a tall order.
Since theater-going has always been a highly social activity, a see-and-be-seen event, I framed the cheap seats as a fun way to get a better view of the audience members themselves.
Full disclosure: I ripped the Lyric’s logo off their website and this fake has not been approved by anyone affiliated with the Lyric Opera.
